Frequently Asked Questions

This page contains a list of fequently asked questions compiled to help answer any quick concerns you may have concerning PixieGirl Designs or services provided.

Pricing and Payment
What do you charge for…?
The question I get the most is What do you charge for a simple website? or What do you charge for designing a package? or any such variation of attempting to get a quick estimate. Unfortunately every project is different, so there is no quick answer.

I couldn’t possibly charge the same for a 5-page website as I would for a 10-page website with eCommerce. Likewise a package for a bottle label would not cost the same as a package for a cereal box or a kitchen appliance. There are many factors that go into quoting a price and clients don’t always provide the necessary details. This is why I have my request an estimate form, to attempt to gather the information I need to put together a proper estimate or at least get you a quick range.

Each project is different, so what I charge varies depending on the complexity of your needs.

I just need a quick quote or price range, what information do you need to put together an estimate?
The more information you can provide, the more accurate the estimate will be. However, if all you need is a quick quote, please ensure to at least provide the following information:

A brief description of your needs
For example, don’t just say you need a package design, say I need a package design for a soda can. Is it a new design, do you also need a logo? Is it a revamp, you have a logo but need a new design? Is there more than one, will it be a line of 5 flavors?

Project Timing
When do you need it to be finalized? Within a week, a month, 3 months, no specific deadline but before X/XX…

Your Budget
Many prospective clients are apprehensive about providing their budget for a project. Although providing this info is optional, it is strongly suggested that you at least include a price range. PixieGirl Designs always makes an effort to keep its prices competitive, and knowing what your allocated budget is will help accomplish that.

If you have any additional information readily available, such as examples of artwork/website you like, feel free to include that as well.

What types of payment do you accept?
Accepted payment types are checks, money orders and PayPal® payments (which allow for credit card payment). Please note that a 3% fee will be incurred to cover PayPal fees.

If you have any additional information readily available, such as examples of artwork/website you like, feel free to include that as well.

What are you payment terms?
Our standard payment term is 50% up front and 50% upon completion. Depending on the complexity of the project, a 1/3 up front, 1/3 midway, and balance upon completion schedule can be arranged. This, however, must be agreed upon by both parties at the beginning of the project. Invoices are sent as PDFs by email (unless otherwise requested before work commences) and payment is due upon 14 days (calendar days, not business days) of invoice date.

Why do you require half of the payment up front, then the rest upon completion?
This is standard practice among designers. It is condsidered a good faith deposit in order to commence work. We require the rest opon deliver in order for us to pay our vendors and allowing us to continue working on projects for our clients.

Domains and Hosting
Where can I purchase my website domain and/or hosting?
I always recommend GoDaddy for domain and hosting purchases. That is what I use for myself, and many of my clients and colleagues use them. They provide excellent customer service and 24/7 support and their prices are very reasonable. They also offer a number of plugins, which makes my work as a web developer easier, which in turn allows me to keep your estimate lower. I’ve also joined their affiliate program, because I strongly recommended them, so please use the banner on my resources page.

I’ve already purchased my domain with another provider, do I have to switch to GoDaddy?
Absolutely not. I will work with whatever provider you already have, however, due to experience some providers are troublesome so I might recommend you switch depending on your project needs. However, that is entirely your decision.

Services
What services do you provide?
PixieGirl Designs is a full-service design agency, with projects ranging from logo design, postcards and packaging, to websites, web banners and eNewsletters. Visit the services page for a listing of services. However, if you don’t see what you need listed there, feel free to ask!

We have an established identity that we cannot (or do not want to) deviate from. Can you work within our specs/guidelines?
We can certainly work with whatever pre-established guidelines you may have, be it an existing logo, color-scheme or design feel. It is important to us that you be able to maintain your brand identity in order to keep your company recognizable and continue to instill a sense reliability with your clients.

I live in “_____”, can you still work with me long distance?
Absolutely, PixieGirl Design works with out-of-town clients all the time! Technology these days makes it very easy for work to be done long distance, from one town over, to halfway around the world!

Do you provide services for adult-related businesses?
Sorry, but we do not work with companies dealing in adult, harmful, unlawful, or questionnable material.

Do on-site design services?
Sorry, but we do not work on-site at this time.

Ownership
Who owns copyright for work PixieGirl Designs has created for me?
Upon full payment, the client shall obtain ownership of the final artwork to use and distribute as they see fit. Yaritsa Arenas retains the right to use the completed project and any preliminary designs for the purposes of design competitions, future publications or designs, educational purposes, marketing material and portfolio.

I’m very happy with the postcard (or logo or package etc) PixieGirl Designs created for me, but I also really like another version/concept provided in a previous phase. Can I keep both?
Only one variation of the final piece is included in your estimate, therefore only the final selected design can be provided to you. If you really want both, however, it can be provided for an additional fee. This is standard practice.
